Mira in Vouge Australia

Miroslava Duma speaks to Vogue Australia about her Buro24/7 and fashion.

Better known for her eclectic yet polished style, Miroslava Duma is also a burgeoning media mogul with her new online media platform Buro24/7. She speaks to Vogue Australia about her global expansion plans, her bookmarked websites and her personal style.

What’s next for Buro24/7?

We are going to turn Buro24/7 into an international brand. So far we have launched one for Western Europe – buro247.hr – and an English language version is in the works. We have already agreed to expand Buro24/7 with an Arabian, French, Ukrainian and Kazakh licenses, as well as others which are in the works. It’s evolved rapidly, which has been a big surprise for me. My team and I work 24 hours a day to make it the most successful and interesting project of contemporary Russian media.

What are your favorite websites?

Buro24/7, of course, and the websites for Vanity Fair, New Yorker, New York Times, The Economist and Vogue, and Style.com and BBC.co.uk.
What would you be doing if you weren’t in the fashion industry?
I have never thought about that. As Wim Wenders once said, “Had it not been for rock 'n' roll, I might be a lawyer now.” It feels so right now that I don’t even want to have another option.

Whose personal style do you love right now?

Diane Kruger looked impressive in Cannes during the film festival. Taylor Tomasi Hill is one of my favourites lately, as well as Hanneli Mustaparta, Chloƫ Sevigny and many more.

Do you shop online?

Yes, because sometimes I have no option but to do it online. I've been too busy lately and online shopping is a solution for me. Net-A-Porter.com is one of my favourite shopping websites.

What do you love most about putting an outfit together?

I have an ability to mix very expensive and very cheap things in a way that they will look cool together. You just have to look in the mirror, experiment, see what works, what doesn’t, mix and match, and it’s like playing a puzzle really. I love mixing prints especially. My fashion style is experimental, because I’m still young and I’m experimenting. The 21st century is a mix of fashion trends – each decade before that was more distinctive, but now it’s a mix. Sometimes I make mistakes too. I love Amanda Brooks's book, I Love Your Style. It's all about trying and experimenting different looks, and there's an unflattering photo of her from maybe 10 years ago and she said something like: "Oh yeah, I'm sorry. It happens." The one who doesn't do anything doesn't make any mistakes.

What do you wear when you’re not working?

During the day, you know, I’m always very relaxed. If I have some meetings with events in the evening, I’ll dress up because it’s part of my job but just going to the office, meeting friends and family it’s always jeans, flats, shorts – something really simple
